It is like the Americans with the biggest arsenal of WMDs in the world being shit-scared of Iraq's non-existent WMDs Considering what a Wahabi ,carrying a stick, living in the mountains, not bathing often, can actually lead Sunni's to do ( killing 3000 civilains...), I kinda understand the paranoia...

Jah, Your point is taken. What you site as identity is more cultural and I never said that the Bohras were devoid of culture. I think the community is rich in cultural tradition. Going back to the identity, my point being that people that volutarily get someone else to name their child, which is the...

Jah, I was actually in agreement with your post, until I read the our identity as bohras is stronger now then it has ever been. bit. Though I am vehemently opposed to the institution of Misaq, I do agree that couples make their own decisions regarding this. Most wimp out and submit to a Misaq, but t...

Re: Question for the Reformists

So keep saying that there is "hikmat" and all will be well. You might even be nominated to be a Sheikh, Amil, bhaisaheb and even shahzada. Only a small step away from being the Dai himself. Alas, a simple nomination won't be enough. Mumin First will need to dole out some cash in addition ...

Re: Tax Evasion of Kothar

Qiyam, Firstly, lets point out that the terms insider or ministers are not applied to in the clause in 501. You have not quoted any info in regard to this. I thought you said you had consulted a CPA ! Why am I responsible for your tax education ? But here you go.... No part of the net earnings of a ...

Qiyam, And from your iterations over what 501 (a) says.. Your posts fail to address these very iterations over what 501 (a) says that leads me to believe that you don't understand what I am saying. Any non-Bohra CPA will tell you that. When the US government allows an entity to be setup as a non-pro...

Re: Tax Evasion of Kothar

Qiyam, I did...that is why I quoted the amount originally. It is very legal and allowed up to $10,000 (based on 2001 US tax code). If you had to consult a tax attorney to come up with that basic info, and even then a 2001 tax deduction, you are not qualified to join this discussion and it also expla...

Re: Tax Evasion of Kothar

This is getting rather silly. This is totally separate from najwa, a gift, because it is given directly for the person. 1. All monies are given to a person, cash or check, salaam or mail. 2. If the person is a minister of an exempt organization and is recieving this money as a result of his position...

Re: Tax Evasion of Kothar

Qiyma,

Again, this is not a gift tax issue.

As an insider and a minister of a 501 (c) organization, if the clergy accepts cash the exempt organization is violating the terms on the 501 (c), and no longer exempt.

Qiyam, You appear to lack basic understanding of US Tax laws. Firstly, I am not referring to the person giving the cash, but the person accepting it, and the liabilities incurred therein. When you setup a 501 (c) organizations the leadership and the clergy are considered insiders . They cannot take ...

Re: Id-ul-FIKR (yes FIKR) Mubarak to the Kothari extremsit B

Qiyam, Najwa is a a gift. They are things you do for barakat...not for your bottom line. It is disingenuous, hypocrtical, and illegal to register as non-profit and account for donations as Barakat requests. Gifts over a certain amount are taxable. In the US there is a deduction for non-profit and re...

Re: Question for the Reformists

This is exactly the dilemma the reformist can never answer because it is a double edge sword. If they agree to the rights of the Dai...they cannot pass judgement against him. If they disagree to the rights of the Dai...then they disown themselves of the Dawat. I do not profess to speak for the prog...

Admin,

I must admit, this is not much of a poll. Very biased and skewed toward a particular opinion. Surely you can come up with something more objective.

Last thing we want is this site to end up like one of the "official" Bohra sites.

Anajmi,

You started your post with

This movement has been started by a major in the american army

and then you came back with

the schools that the army helped destroy in the first place.

I hope you agree that you are being disingenuous here.

The women of this community fought for their rights and attained freedom in a male-dominated society... These same free women, sit in a separate section of the Bohri mosque fighting for the privilge to sit near a peep hole so they can see what's going on. Freedom ? Yep, relative to the Wahabis....
