Muslims too must address first cousin marriages, I think as a community this practice alone causes such great damage, and suffering to too many, particularly in the Pakistani community, an honest discussion is sorely needed. Has Hazir Imam come up with Farman prohibiting Ismailis from first cousin ...

jawanmardan, These were the goals of the americans a couple of decades ago when they were on the same side as the Taliban driving out the Russians. But we all know what happened. Dear Seeker, Your argument goes down the path of eugenics, deciding who is and who is not worthy of life and a place in society. We would never have had Professer Steven Hawking in such a society. I do however support family planning, having only as many children as one can afford. I also think that...

The Taliban realise that a lot of political capital has been expended by the west, and withdrawal is imminent (much of this due to the idiotic invasion of Iraq)....

I do think the article has some suspiciously odd ideas. I would also question the premise that ISAF is solely there to kill Taliban; rather ...

It costs the US $1 million per soldior per year. After the withdrawal it will cost $20 billion a year to maintain the Afghan military, which while a large sum is significantly less than the current cost. The quality of the training of Afghan troops has significantly improved with the new US command....

JM What is your defination of Wahabism? I would define Wahabism as the 18th century movement that dominates the gulf states. It's origins lie in the crisis of western Imperialism and expansion in the region during a tumultuous period in history. Fundamentally it is a reaction against (west, Sufis, ...

I'm personally inclined toward believing that Sufism, or the progressive Muslim movement has the answer. The extreme Islamists are passionate advocates of Islam but ultimately are shallow, their religiosity is outwardly apparent but lacks any sense of spirituality. Wahabbism and other forms of Islam...
