"Qatl-e-Husain asl main marge Yazid hai,
Hota hai Islam zinda har Karbala ke baad"
Ali Gauhar

For those consistently striving against injustice and oppression, EVERY DAY IS ASHURA AND EVERY PLACE IS KARBALA.

Following from islamicity.com

WHO IS HUSAYN?

Husayn is the son of Fatimah, the daughter of the Prophet. The holy Prophet said of her, "she is among the leaders of the women of Paradise".

The father of Husayn is Ali, who was a cousin and one of the most beloved and steadfast companions of the Prophet. Indeed, Ali is like the sun, Fatimah like the moon and Husayn a star in the galaxy of heroes.

Together with his brother Hasan, Husayn is considered among "leaders of the youth of Paradise". We shall never forget how the Prophet descended from his pulpit to embrace and seat his grandson besides him before resuming his sermon, nor how he prolonged his prostration in order not to discomfort the other who had climbed on his back. The Prophet beseeched the Almighty; "O Allah, I love Hasan and Husayn, do love them and love those who love them".

ASHURA

The tenth of Muharam marks a significant day in the Muslim calendar; it is the day on which, among other events, Allah saved Prophet Musa from the tyrannical Pharaoh. To commemorate this event the Prophet recommended we fast on this day; a fast considered second only to the obligatory fast of Ramadan.

Another a significant event occurred on that day in 61 AH, an event that serves as a milestone in the history of the faithful... the martyrdom if Imaam Husayn at Karbala. A martyrdom at the hands of those who claimed to act in the name of Islam yet unremorsefully and shamelessly were prepared to obliterate its true exponent; those who (like so many of us) are prepared to kill for Islam yet are unable to live by it. Yes, Husayn was martyred at the hands of those who would kiss the Black Stone because the holy Prophet kissed it, yet cut off the precious head of that dear grandson of the holy Prophet, a head which the Prophet so often stroked and kissed with affection.

THE LESSON OF KARBALA

Imam Husayn's martyrdom at Karbala provides evidence of the moral victory of right over wrong, of virtue over vice, of principle over compromise, of the oppressed over the oppressor, of the denied over the denier; the ultimate victory of blood over sword. Karbala teaches humankind through the inscription of blood on the scrolls of human history how Husayn explained to the world by his death, through martyrdom, the meaning of life; that living is truly of value that offers itself for a cause greater than its self, that to die with honor is better than living in subjugation to injustice. The lesson is not only that he was prepared to fight for what is right, but that he was willing to die for it; selflessness, not selfishness; humility not ego.

The great spiritual master, Khaja Muinuddin Chisti said; "Husayn is king, truly the king is Husayn, the manifestation of Faith is Husayn and the protector of Faith is Husayn. Husayn gave his head in allegiance to God but not his hand in allegiance to Yazid.."

THE LEGACY OF HUSAYN

The memory of Husayn excites the spirit, the very name of Husayn evokes the tradition of resistance against tyranny and inequity. His colossal struggle and monumental martyrdom is so poignant that it continues to serve as a beacon of light to all the faithful who struggle for freedom and justice.

In the words of Moulana Ali Gouhar, "The killing of Husayn is in fact the death knell of Yazid. Islam is revived after every such Karbala". For those consistently striving against injustice and oppression, EVERY DAY IS ASHURA AND EVERY PLACE IS KARBALA.

Tomorrow is Ashura. I am sure all us will be crying and doing josh te matam. Now, if you think back, Imam Hussein (as) rise up against Yazid tyranny because he couldn’t stand people indifference. When Yazid came to power, he said pretty disgusting thing. One of it was that “Prophet was a liar and there was no wahi from Allah swt. He wanted worldly power and Islam is a religion created by Bani Hashim. They wanted Arab to submit to their rule” When Yazid said this, no one objected him. People indifferent to this …bothered Imam Hussein(as) a lot.

If you think back, ….is the situation now any different from 61 H when Imam Hussein was martyred? ..No, it is the same exact situation. Sayedna has made amazing claim and tyranny is prevailing in our community. No one is standing up to these khotar Yazidi.

For me, I have began to think that Ashura in our bohra community is just a meaningless empty ritual and a fiesta at most. We beat our chest and we shed some crocodile tears. We say we are trying to feel the sadness and we understand the sacrifice of Imam Hussein and his family. But do we? Imam Hussein stood up to this people ..but we don’t. Yazid wanted Imam Hussein hand, but Imam Hussein gave away his life. We bohra on the other hand gladly give our hand, wealth, body and soul to Khotar Yazidi.

We are pathetic loser. We don’t deserve to make high and mighty claim that we understand Imam Hussein sacrifice. We don’t. Not really. We let them buy our freedom and our silence and hypocritically we say we are shia of Hussein when the real fact is..we are in the army of Yazid massacring Holy prophet Grandson. Tomorrow, I want all of you to ask yourself, will Imam Hussein be happy with us? Am I doing what my Imam, want?

Aashura's climactic and poignant moment is a call to rise up from spiritual and moral slumber.

Over one thousand three hundred and fifty years ago, on the 10th of Muharram, just before 'asr, a man stood on a sand-dune at Kerbala. He was bleeding from several wounds on his body. He had lost everything. Since early morning he had carried several dead bodies into his camp. He had even buried his infant child.

He looked at the bodies of his loved ones. Tears flowed out of his eyes. He looked at the sky and seemed to draw some strength from an unseen source. Then, like a muezzin from a minaret, he raised a call:

Is there anyone who will come to assist us ?
Is there anyone who will respond to our call for aid ?
He turned direction and repeated the call. He did this four times.

Whom was he calling out to? Surely he was not expecting anyone to come to his aid. Those who wanted to help him had already crossed the lines and laid down their lives for the cause. He knew there was no one left. He knew that there was no other Hur. And yet, meticulously and laboriously, he made sure that his call reverberated in all directions.

Of course that call was a call to Muslims of every generation in every land. It was a call to us where ever we may be. It was a call for help. Help against Yezeedism which in every age rears its ugly head to oppress justice, truth and morality. Our Imam was calling out to every Muslim of every age and time to combat Yezeedism, both within himself and as an external force. This was his battle cry for jihad-ul-akbar. He had already demonstrated that his objective had always been to create a spiritual awakening through amr bil ma'ruf and nahyi anal munkar. Now he was calling out for the continuation of this jihad at the individual, social and political levels
