Wajebat tax collection update

I have heard that this year from reports from East Africa and Australia the wajebaat collection was aggressive with amounts being demanded starting at over 50% more than previous years? What’s your local stories like ?

It is strange when globally people’s salaries and incomes have freezed; while some have lost incomes Kothar is having hyper-inflation in rates.

Is this to do with Hawat-E Hadiyah loosing value of assets due to British Pound's depreciation?

Or Is it to do with Kasre-Aali has more mouths to feed or they know that with Moalas age and no guarantee of their future influence let them reap as the sun shines ?

One Amils excuse was in difficult time the more we give the more Mumin will be insulated from the GFC !

how about the Wajebaat Collection from children from Madrasa.
Is it right to take Wajebaat from them as they are not earning?

It''s been reported that Amils of a few karachi mosques,(Shabbirabad area) have asked people to do najwa and Imam-us-Zaman salam araz with a gold guinea (coin). One amil said in his eid raat speech that the only way of "Nijaat" is doing Salam in gold. And I think it's pathetics to collect money from Madrassa bachay log. The tactics behind is to instill from early on that wajebat is a "Farz" and no matter what, you've got to pay. It's like brain washing. Poor souls..tsk tsk..

I have recieved the following news from Bharuch by e-mail which I am reproducing as it is as Wajebat update:-

Amil, Secretary and Jamat members of Bharuch are in police custody for forcibly collecting manifold increased Wajebat

Dawoodi Bohras of Bharuch are extremely poor. They stay in old dilapidated small houses and meet two ends by hard labour pulling handcarts and doing hawkers’ jobs. Inspite of several written requests no help has been extended to them by the Jamat. In such poor place Amil Shaikh Burhanuddin has been deputed who is most ruthless and extortionist. He with equally ruthless and greedy secretary of Jamat Husain Daruwala and few other Jamat members imposed this year manifold Wajebat. For example one Abdullah bhai who is a handcart puller was asked to pay Rs. 14,000 last year is now asked to pay Rs. 2 lakhs.
To expose this highhandedness of Amil a letter was sent to the Chief Minister, Collector and DSP by one H.T. Rangwala that he would burn himself out side the Jamat office and the resident of Amil Shaikh Burhanuddin at 9:30 in the morning of 28th of Ramazan (17th September 2009). The local administration and police acted immediately to avoid this incident. The police made arrest of Amil Shaikh Burhanuddin, of secretary, Husain Daruwala and two other prominent members of the Jamat. They also arrested H.T. Rangwala in order to protect him from implementing his plan. Newspaper reporters from Dohad and Surat also reached on the spot.
While the whole town is celebrating Idd the Amil and the secretary are held up in police custody are being questioned for practice of Wajebat.
This Amil Shaikh Burhanuddin was earlier posted at Khar – Mumbai. He is originally from Godhara and most of the businessmen in Bombay, hailing from Godhara are traditionally clean shaved. This Amil had called them once as “Dogs” and was beaten up. So he was shunted to Bharuch.

Ramazan passed peacefully in Udaipur
There was apprehension of big trouble in Udaipur as apart from mischief-creator Amil Mustafa even maha- mischief-creator Sayedul Khair had reached to Udaipur. But since the local administration had kept a strict watch on the activities of there two miscreants nothing happened in Udaipur this time. Most members from Shabab's orthodox group were seen complaining about high rate of Wajebat demanded this year.

Some trouble had surfaced at Ahmedabad and Mumbai - Details awaited.

In mississauga Jamat canada, Amil Sh: Ali Akbar attar and naeem bhujwala ousted one member for personal difference, the member contacted some one in upper echelon and he was brought back.

Morever first time in history Amil announced the names of persons who did not do takhmeen or did not pay wajebat to humilate them. A written petition is circulated condemning this practice. Last year due to high handedness of amil and jamat members one bohra approached police. Ali akbar attar has unleashed a reign of terror and converted jamat into his own corporation. His visa has been extended for another term, but yet he has not got extension from jamat.
His ruthlessness has touched heights never seen before.
Ali akbar attar is from a small village in india, he wants to treat torontonian the same way, but he forgot this is an urban city of a modern civilized country.

it is high time some one approach government to cancel his visa extension, as being a minister of religion his activities are contrary to visa regualtion. he is involved in extortion, bullying and hooliganisim alongwith naeem bhujwala who is made vali mulla at his behest.

So friends, what should we all bohras do? to get rid off from these Wajebat, Najwa, Sillat, Khumus etc, etc.Where these money goes? No one knows. Can we go on to media, newspapers, print articles in magazines? suggestions awaited.
You all have noticed that these demands of money are growing in a very rapid mode.
Here in Karachi, they demand on Eid Raat to buy gold coin, (1/2 gm Rs 1100, 1 gm Rs. 2100 ) and asked the people to present these Gainies to Aamil of respective mosque, so that Nijaat of Bohras will be done. I dont know, where these orders comes from? Though Karachi Bohras are mostly very educated, but despite this they obey all these farmans and orders without any hesitation or resistance.
On Eid Raat our Aamil (Soldier Bazzar, Karachi) said that if we pay or give Sillat, then Allah will give Jannat to us on Roz e Akhrat.
How long this fraudness and money making journey will continue? when will an ordinary bohra will stand up and revolt against this system?

"when will an ordinary bohra revolt"?

Most Bohras are like me-cowards. We need a few more S.Insaafs and Asgerali Engineers.

Forget the system! Some of us are still trying to figure out merely how we're going to announce our conversions from Dawoodi Bohra Islam (as it is now) to our own family/community! ;)

This does not seem realistic at all... How can a handcart puller pay 2 lakhs??? I am sure the Aamil is not that stupid either to ask two lakhs of wajebaat from a handcart puller. This story seems to be blown out of proportion and hence its credibility is doubtful.

Unless the Amil is total bonkers the story does not make sense.

Surely Canada would have laws against vilification and if found guilt the visa would be cancelled

2lacks for a handcart puller ie more than what most of us pay in teh West.

.now question for people like EAW how can Moala be informed of this corruption ?

Yes in Canada the person can contact Council on American Islamic Relation and they will take his case of Social Discrimination.
Announcing and humiliating people on the basis of their belief is a serious matter and in USA and Canada they will be consequences for the Aamils

In the southeast of u.s. Atlanta being the hub, a sabil of $1752 was collected. For a small jamaat this is highway robbery. On the one hand people have mortgage payments which the jamat states one should try and get out of and on the other hand they are demanding huge sabil money. The jamat is ever ready to grab all the money they can for sabil and salams etc, regardless of whether one is holding a mortgage, but when it comes to raza for any occasion, one has to be clear of riba to get approval. How can one get out of riba with all these huge sabils, salams, najwa etc. The present day jamat with the secretary holding his post for the past 25 years he thinks the jamat is his personal club. This whole jamaat committee of old timers should be dissolved and a new jamat with young blood should be formed.

Have anyone who is being demanded huge sums tried saying " thanks Amil Saheb but I cannot " and walk away from the bargaining table ?

What more will the Amil be able to do than delisting one from private invitations ?

People in countries like US, Canada should make use of the fact that there are very strict regulations on such harassment. Plus communities are not so seriously tied together that you only survive on people from your own community. Neither can the jamaat influence everyone in the community like they do in the sub-continent.

There is always a start and someone has to do it. I think this phrase is applicable here " Barking dogs seldom bite". We cannot stay down in fear because of the repercussions. Islam teaches us that if you dont go against in justice then even that is not accepted. Whether you oppose in an active manner or passive, but atleast you should. If we all do a little we can do a lot.
