Please dont feel dejected, it is a time to rejoice as you will be spared all the unneccesary hardships which comes along with the burden of attending mola's vayez. After all, the bayan is prepared by some amil and the dai only reads from whatever is given to him and also you have the privelage to watch the live relay and take azim-us-shan barkat. Instead engross yourself in prayers and remembrance of Imam Hussain (a.s.) and atleast try to follow him in a manner which pleases him the most.

My sympathies are with you dear guy_sam. You can't even read simple english. Your question if you can read was about civil tuitions, not sabaks. The only thing that abdes learn in sabaks and vaez is "laanat". Just go through the posts of abdes, and this statement will be validated.

Redevelopment to skirt places of worship

MUMBAI: A portion of the plots at Bhendi Bazaar and Chira Bazaar which are up for redevelopment will be exploited by developers to construct towers and sell them at market rate to recover their cost and make profits.

The Bhendi Bazaar redevelopment proposal, first reported by TOI in June 2009, has been spearheaded by the spiritual head of the one million-strong Dawoodi Bohra community, Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin. His son, Shahzada Dr Qaidjoher Bhaisaheb Ezzuddin, has stationed himself in the heart of Bhendi Bazaar to monitor the progress of the project on a daily basis.

"It's a Rs 3,000 crore philanthropic project, (initially it was Rs. 1,5000 project, then it increased to Rs. 2,000 and now Rs. 3,000), which will be funded entirely by the Saifee Burhani Upliftment Trust on a no-profit, no-loss basis," said trust secretary Abdeali Bhanpurawala. The project's chief liaison person, Murtuza Ali Rajkotwala, said the trust has purchased a two-acre plot in Mazgaon, where 1,500 families will be temporarily accommodated in three transit buildings. Several Bohra families have already moved to these buildings. "We provide them three meals a day free of cost for the first one month," said Rajkotwala.

The trust has acquired 179 of the 250 buildings in Bhendi Bazaar and so far paid Rs 56 crore to the landlords. "The Syedna has asked to provide each family a minimum of 350 sq ft in the new construction, although the government policy stipulates only 300 sq ft," said Bhanpurawala.

Kumar said two ancient mosques in Bhendi Bazaar's Mutton Street will not be shifted, but roads in the vicinity will have to be widened. He said a school situated between the two mosques would be rebuilt on stilts to allow for a car park and a subway that will take children safely to a nearby playground. Another 60,000 sq m underground public car park will be built to accommodate 1,400 vehicles, Kumar added.

"The trust plans to construct just four towers in the free sale component. Seventy per cent of the land will be used to rehabilitate the existing tenants," said project architect Shaikh Samoon F Rassiwala.

In south Mumbai, the Rs 3,000 crore Chira Bazaar project envisages the redevelopment of 362 buildings and rehousing of over 40,000 people currently living in more than 8,000 tenements. "The 30 acre sprawl at present comprises 47% residential and 53% commercial structures," said Kishore Avarsekar, chairman of Unity Infraprojects. Five acres will be taken up in the first phase and the entire project is scheduled to be completed in five to seven years.

Chira Bazaar houses many heritage religious structures, including Jain temples, mosques and Parsi fire temples. "If the cluster redevelopment is not done in a planned way, it will end up hurting the sentiments of religious communities," warned a Girgaum resident.

The municipal commissioner assured that none of the temples or heritage structures in the area—which is enclosed by Babasaheb Jaykar Marg, Dr M B Velkar Street, Kalbadevi Road and JSS Marg—will be touched or relocated. Also, Kalbadevi and Jagannath Sankersett roads will be widened to 90 ft from the existing 60 ft, he said.

The developer said the project will upgrade and augment the buildings' infrastructure and restore heritage structures free of cost. "It (The area) will have wide roads, adequate parking areas... and proper market places," said Avarsekar.

Raudat tahera will not be visible from JJ, the empty white area you see is the one where agha building, Tokra gali and a Masjid is, these were never part of this project. Even Mohammadi Tayyabi is shown reconstructed so how will be Raudat Tahera be see from main road.

While the abdes look forward to the redevelopment of Bhindi Bazaar area, here is a true account (with pictures) of Kothaar's and a local Bohra jamaat's gross indifference and incapability to do anything right; that too on a much smaller scale. Through this post I wish to bring to light, epic proportions of the dark side, of this once god-fearing and righteous community. Hopefully after reading this post, some lurking abdes will bring this to the attention of higher authorities in the Kothaar administration and get them to send relief and comfort to the affected mumins of the Bandra jamaat. Even if the Kothaar is successful in redeveloping the Bhindi Bazaar area, the local mumins will be affected in untold ways.

On the evening of Sayedna saheb’s milad, one of the several fire crackers lit up to celebrate the occasion entered a home in a very old building, right opposite the Bohra masjid in Bandra West, Mumbai. The fire that ensued engulfed several homes and devastated the lives of the residents. The affected families are one of the poorest mumins to reside in that building and this was their only home.

Abdes who deny the heavy handedness and degradation of the community should take note, that the person clicking pictures, in no way caused or aggravated the situation, but was beaten by a local youth. There is no point in elaborating further on this topic.

Following the fire, the Bandra jamaat has subdued the event and has also decided to not help any of the mumin families to get their lives back on track. Let alone being compensated for material loss and disruption of normal life, these poor mumins have decided to pool their own money to re-build their homes on a dilapidated and structurally unsound foundation. This is the only way they can manage to have a roof over their head and continue with their lives.

Another thing noteworthy is that all the residents of this building are unitedly fighting the Bandra Jammat, for the last three decades. Bandra jamaat wants to redevelop this building and make huge profits out of it. The roughly proposed plan is that the jamaat will own a ceremony/function hall on the ground floor, which can be rented, and the next two floors will be sold to rich Bohras at market rates. The residents of the old building will be then allotted apartments on the remaining floors, with significantly less floor space then what they currently live in. The jamaat cites FSI limitations as a reason for their inability to provide better housing, but everyone in Bandra knows that the proposed plan allows for the local jamaat members to make truck loads of money from this project and provide themselves with a continuous stream of income for years together at the expense of poor mumins. Unfortunately, while the mumins continue to fight the crafty jamaat members, the jamaat continues to watch the degradation of the living conditions of mumins in this building.

Bohras are not going to stand up against the jamaat, they are all scared of being outcasted and physically harmed. The threat is real and they don't have a place to go if it happens. The fact that they have been able to stall the reconstruction project until they get a better offer is a hard task in itself.
