I have received this e-mail from an unknown person from Banglore.

The Amil has invested lots of money in real estate in his wife's name near new masjid.

The land has lots of legal problems. But the Amil has sold part of this property to some innocent Bohras some how. Income tax department has come in know of this transaction and raided the premises of one Bohra who was compelled to disclose the name of Amil and his wife. On investigation the income tax department has served non bailable summons on Amil’s wife.
But the cunning Amil has handed over a maid servant to the police as his wife. The next day after spending lacks of rupees the maid was released on bail.

I request some Like-minded person to tell us the entire story with the name of this Amil and his wife, property details and the legal hitch in the possession of this property etc.

if the Resident Aamil is:
Shk.Zohairbhai Qassimali, then he is the same guy who has some kind of "blackmail/extortion" pull against the Kothar.

There is a story that a few years ago one of the Shehzadaas of the Kothar went hunting in India, and this Aamil was one of the "goffers" who accompanied the shehzadaa.

In the Indain village, the Shezadaa instead of shooting and killing an animal killed an Indian villager. This Aamil arranged and paid off the villager's family and hushed up the murder/manslaughter.

The Kothar, owed him a lot. So they gave him the plum poisition of an Aamil in Toronto, Ontario. The Kothar normally sends their Bhaisahebs and Shehzaddas to these North Amercian and Euaropean cities. When the Toronto Jamaat got fed up with his money-making schemes and extortions, they apparently asked for his removal. He was posted to another lucrative position - at Bangalore.

We wrote on Sept 24, 2002: This is Kothar:
Does anyone know that notorious sycophant Sheikh Zohair of Toronto, ex- Amil, when he was departing from Toronto (good riddance of better rubbish(, this month by air, he was refused to fly to wherever he was flying to because of some questionable actions - taking too much of the ill-gotten gains from Canada and the fellow passengers refusing to fly with him as he reminded them of Osama Bin Laden. Apparently some disgruntled members of the Toronto Jamaat had tipped off the authorities of the laundered and untaxed funds he was illegally carrying.
He is believed to be still in Canada !!!!
Can someone shed some true light on this please. ?

Bhai Mohammad Husain and all like minded:
They are transfered to other lucrative stations because Kothar can't afford to loose them. The reason is very obvious they all share very valuable inside knowledge of Kothar's KALEE KARTOOT.

Shiek Zohair (ex Toronto Amil) is now transfered to Banglor.

THE STATE OF THE TORONTO BOHRA JAMAT IN 2002 – THE LEGACY OF JANAB SHAIKH ZOHAIR
QASSAMALI (AMIL OF TORONTO)

It was a sad day, a few years ago, when the frail and fatherly figure of JanabTaher Bhai Saheb departed from Toronto. No longer able to cope with the demands of Amalat, he headed home to India for a well deserved retirement.

During his Amalat, in Toronto and elsewhere, he touched scores of Mumineen and Muminat with his humility, compassion and eagerness to serve.

The departure of JanabTaher Bhai Saheb orphaned the community and ushered in one
of the most troubling periods of Amalat the Toronto Jamat has ever witnessed. Shaikh Zohair assumed office and over the next four years proceeded with his inept decision making, greed and the manipulation of every instrument of office to alienate himself from all self-respecting members of our community. In this, he was assisted by several weak-kneed members of the Jamat elite, many of whom, being too enamored of their lofty and ill-deserved titles, were only too happy to do their master’s bidding.

We are delighted that Shaikh Zohair is finally being ejected from his present
office and hopefully into oblivion. Before his departure, it is only appropriate
that we examine his disgraceful legacy and the actions of the minions surrounding him who eagerly did his bidding.

Consider for example the following two recent incidents:

• Shaikh Zohair denied funeral services for Fazal Laxmidhar’s (Fazal is a member
in good standing who has contributed in many ways to the well being of the community) mother because she had willed to be buried in St. Catherines ( burial in the community where she had lived for several years would facilitate Ziyarat by her family members). Shaikh Zohair insisted, much to the chagrin of Fazal and his family members, that she must be buried in Toronto or else he would not perform the rites. In desperation, Fazal sought the support of the local Sunni
mosque where last rites were performed according to our traditions. As if this
travesty was not enough, Raza has since been declined for performing the 40th day Fateha Jaman at our mosque.

• Earlier, despite the pleadings of an aggrieved sister (she, a paying member of
the Jamat, had traveled all the way from Pakistan to be with her dying sibling),
the body of Murhoom Tasneem Abdulla lay in hospital for four days before burial was accorded. This is because Shaikh Zohair had more important business to perform in Edmonton (inexplicably, he left without assigning someone to look after the situation). Upon his return, family members continued to be harassed until intervention was sought from Houston and the lady was finally laid to rest.

In the interest of brevity, we have omitted to recount other sordid details of the above incidents. However, these two and a multitude of other incidents we are aware of demonstrate the erratic decision-making, poor judgment and lack of compassion that has typified Shaikh Zohair’s Amalat. Additionally, these actions were regretfully taken with the complicity of those who are supposed to represent the community’s interest at large and who instead have elected to participate in his charade for their own preservation. Note that several new
arrivals in Toronto have chosen to postpone registration until Shaikh Zohair leaves town rather than contend with his unpredictable personal demeanor.

In Fazal’s case, the denial of raza for the 40th is ostensibly because he chose to have the last rites performed in a Sunni mosque. At least, the Sunnis offered more understanding and compassion than Shaikh Zohair could muster. While berating the Sunni ideology is one thing, heaping scorn and laanat, in general, on individual Sunnis is down right unIslamic (our religion enjoins us to treat others as brothers and sisters). The recent actions of Aqua Maula himself do not support the stance taken: in Iraq, he not only accepted the hospitality of Sadam Hussein, a Sunni and a universally reviled tyrant, but also offered prayers for
him. While Shaikh Zohair has entertained the likes of Paul Martin and Bhandari (the ex Consulate General of India) within the precincts of our mosque, even to the extent of having dinner served by shot skirted waiteress, he objected to the presence of two Sunni invitees at the mosque and insisted that they leave before Jaman could be served. Amazing inconsistencies!

In countless sermons, Shaikh Zohair and others have reminded us of the exemplary
actions of Hazrat Ali and so they should. For example, we are reminded that Hazrat Ali declined to use state resources for his personal use. Contrast this with the excesses indulged in by Shaikh Zohair, which would be more acceptable, were it not for the fact that the associated costs have been paid from Jamat coffers.

• Shaikh Zohair is now driving his third car in Canada (his first car, a van,was abandoned after being equipped with top-of-the-line tires; his second car, a Honda Accord, was written off as a result of an accident - guess who is paying the increased insurance cost). In addition, Bhein Saheba enjoys the privilege of her own car.

• His love for fast driving has netted several traffic tickets.

• The home, which was acceptable to Shaikh Taher Bhai Saheb, was renovated at Jamat’s expense to suit the fancy of Shaikh Zohair.

• His frequent jetting habit has been a continual drain on Jamat’s resources.

• Despite being paid a salary, recipients for services (Misak, marriage ceremony
etc.) are reminded by underlings of unreasonable payments they must render.

• Even the performance of a dariz has been compromised depending on the anticipated renumeration he would receive.

It is not surprising that our Jamat dues have spiraled out of control and that there is a total lack of fiscal accountability. Contributing Jamat members are entitled to know how raised funds are disbursed. Most members, unfortunately, have no confidence that funds raised, for example, towards the Earthquake Relief in Gujarat ever reached the intended recipients.

We must credit Shaikh Zohair for xacerbating the already entrenched class system in our Jamat. We are obviously referring to the ‘Shaikh /Mulla’ class and the ‘Bhai’ class to which most ordinary folks like us belong. Admission to the first class requires a minimum of $52,000; abilities are optional. The Shaikh class dines together, are listed under a separate grouping in our telephone directory, jostle for position in the front rows, are entitled to be received in dignity by Maula (the rest of us have to crawl between the legs of rude volunteers) etc. And we thought Islam was a class-less society!

It may be too late to demand accountability from Shaikh Zohair and to remind him
that he was sent here to serve and not to be served. Hope he gets his deserve wherever he is headed and in the after life (we fervently hope that he will be demoted from Amalat). However, the Jamat committee and the Jamat elite which served him are here to stay (we recognize the dedicated service which some of them such as Shaikhs Hamza, Hakimuddin, Ameer Mewa, AbdulHusein AbdulHusein, Mustafa Master etc have rendered over the years and apologize to them if they feel smeared by association with the rest of their class). To the Jamat
committee and the Jamat elite, we make this clear and unequivocal demand:

• that when the new incumbent takes office, that you refrain from pandering to
his whims and fancies as you have done over the last several years,

• that you exercise moral leadership and hold the office to the highest standards for fiscal responsibility and accountability,

• that you bear in mind who you represent - first and foremost, the interest of the community and if you are prevented in fulfilling that mandate, that you resign en mass.

If the above changes are not forthcoming, we assure you that the Jamat will have to contend with the full force of the law and be forced to reckon with government auditors and the media. The situation, as it stands now, is plainly disgusting and is singularly responsible for the disenchantment many youngsters face within our community (they question the yawning gap between what is preached and what is practised). Sadly, money has become our religion and we have drifted far from the principles espoused by Hazrat Ali.

Take heed. You have been amply warned.

As to Shaikh Zohair, we bid him good-bye. He has endeared himself to no one in particular. We will heave a collective sigh of relief when he is finally gone from our midst. And may he never come back here again. The memories of unjust actions, misdemeanors and excesses perpetuated by him will unfortunately haunt us for a long time to come.

We appeal to all members, in particular, those who believe that our priestly class can do no wrong – wake up from your stupor and naiveté and reclaim your religion and the true values it stands for.

Hi,
This is true that there is some litigation issues going on around the new Al-Burhani masjid in Bangalore. The bohris are clamouring to buy some land around the masjid complex, and so it makes a lot of business sense even if the aamil has done this.

Recently when Aqa Moula was in Bangalore for the iftetah of the same masjid, millions of rupees were collected by the bohris who wanted to get a kadambosi pass. AS there are a lot of families here in which the son is earning in the IT Sector but the parents are settled someplace else, these people are not paying any sabeel as they are still paying where they have the major part of the family (in their native places). So the starting amount for these people who do not have a sabeel account in bangalore but also want to do a qadambosi was around Rs. 27000/- per head.

So you can imagine the amount of money they must have made and invested the same in real estate.

So they get to take monies in the form of "voluntary salaams". All the cash gets to be collected under the IRS radar. They pay no taxes on it, regardless of which country they've been in.
Incidentally enough, you mention real estate - out in Chicago jamaat they are charging each family $4,000 to acquire an adjoining plot of land next to their masjid.. They'll be able to use these parcels as the beginnings of communities where they will control the revenue that will come from Bohris. They will then be able to take a tax deduction on their real estate taxes on every piece of property they own.

Now if they were doing something beneficial for the community with all of this revenue it would be one thing but they're keeping all of this tax-free money for themselves. And they still get to take the deduction. It does appear to be a global practice for them.
Now I also wonder this. If they demand a particular price for a thaal jaman, or a piece of land that the jamaat is buying, then essentially they're charging an admission price. Do they declare this as revenue?

The message from them is quite clear: you will pay us money all the time. In return for what? Sermons, flowery tear jerker speeches, constant maatam and feeling sadness at prayer services. Followed almost immediatley by rich, heavy food.
The body's physiological response to a heavy meal is to feel sluggish and content. Everybody goes home happy. And their money was taken before leaving.
Very clever way to dupe a folk into believing that only their Moula and their saint Burhanuddin will make them feel better. It's clearly a very clever psychological trick. It serves only the avarice of these Kotharis.

Humsafar, Anajmi et al. are worried about the Patriot Act when in India you can hand off anyone to the police as your wife and those bumbling idiots cart them off to jail ???

An obvious case of misplaced concerns and priorities.....
