Re: Religion and money making
People living in Toronto should contact those reporters and tell them the parallels of our faith
Re: Religion and money making

Re: Religion and money making
well there are obvious violation of charity regulation. One is that most of its fund raising should be spent on charitable accounts. The audits are all cooked, most of funds raised are not reported. Only sabil account gets you the tax receipt, the rest is just collection. whereas the anjumane najmi is registered as charitable organization, it is actually a religious organization.
Re: Religion and money making
This is exactly the state of dawoodi bohras. The khotars lives like kings while ruling the community like Pharoahs.
Re: Religion and money making
For Wajebat (zakat, which they donot want to call zakat, for various reasons) is collected under the name of 'Dawat-e-Hadiyah - USA' and all the cheques are sent to USA.
Most of the collections are the name of Dawat and they go to States.
Even Qard-e-Hasana cheques are under the name of Dawat.
Very little is accepted under Anjuman name and the reason is that they have to keep record of that and get them audited. This money is kept for expenses (less for masjid etc more for the chamchas and salams and that stuff).

Thanks JC for pointing out where the cheques are going. Thanks Mumineen for detailing - on another thread - how the bohra satraps are violating the Canadian rules.
I believe the Toronot Star is running a series investigating organisation/charities that might be violating the country's laws. It may be a good idea to write to the editors at Toronto Star asking them to investigate into the financial mismanagement and unaccountability of the Bohra orgnaisatons in Canada and USA.
Here's email address you can write to: lettertoed@thestar.ca

Questions:
Any idea how many bohras there might be in North America?
How much money could the Kothar be making here annually?
If we can have some firm fiqure it might peak the interests of the editors at the Star.

Re: Religion and money making
My rough idea about Canada is that there are around 300 families in Canada and approximately each family pays CAD 3,000 pa for Zakat and Sabeel only. There may be some families which pay less and some are Shaikhs who must be paying more. Then to me around 150 families are paying towards Qard-e-Hasna and minimum they accept is CAD 500 pa, some are paying more. Then there are collections for masjid (other than huge sums they are asking for Mississuga, near Toronto mosque). Then there are collections in the name of Silat, Najwa, Nazar Muqam and offcourse JAMANs. Lets see how much it comes to:
1. Yearly contribution (300 X 3000) = CAD 900,000
2. Qard-e-Hasna (150 X 1000) = CAD 150,000
3. Masjid (150 X 500) = CAD 75,000
4. Silat Najwa Nazar etc = CAD 50,000
5. Jamans = CAD 50,000
And there are others too in the name of Salams and various units for various units.
To me they approx collect CAD 1.3 to 1.5 million per annum. This is a rough conservatiove estimate.

Re: Religion and money making
They are asking from each and every Canadian bohra family following:
Minimum $3,000 for Parking lot adjacent to current masjid.
Minimim $9,000 for current masjid extention.
Minimum $21,000 for Mississauga masjid.
Total $33,000 (approx 1.7 million Indian/Paki rupees).
And who will be organizers and trustees of all these properties?? At the end who is set to gain when burhan dies and community splits - all His Royal Highnesses.
