ROI

The one and only free public forum for Bohras. The focus of this forum is the reform movement, the Dawoodi Bohra faith and, of course, the corrupt priesthood. But the discussion is in no way restricted to the Bohras alone.

Lets have an evaluation of the return on investment a bohra gets by putting his money on kothar. I would request the contributors to be factual and objective.

The payment heads which I kow are

-Zakat - once a year
-Sila Fitra- once a year
-Sabeel- once a year
-Regular salams for razas and festivals
-Home-visit fees of aamils, shehzadas etc
-Cess for building monuments - frequently
-Hub for darees- occassionally
-Misc.

People can add to the list and populate it with figures

The returns that bohras get from kothar are

- Few free meals per month (chapatis, few sweets, gosht plate, rice, etc shared between 8 people per thaal)
- accomodations (not free) during a couple of times in a year when going for ziyarat.
- organised trips to middle east once in a life time or may be more (again not free and infact priced much above prevailing rates)

People can add and populate them with figures.

If the ROI is reasonable, I guess all the kotharis deserve praises.

then units in ramzan for jaman and iftaar. varies as per the city u rside in.

In Chicago, there has been a custom of demanding units from every family (including non-married individuals) any time that a "shehzaada padhaares".

Khuda Ta'ala only knows what this money is used for, but some years ago when they were building their masjid, a collection was taken for the masjid fund. This money mysteriously disappeared into the hands of Shz. Malek Al Ashtar,TLD when he came around for a casual visit. They were told that he had to collect it and take it to Mumbai. No accounting was ever given for this money, and the people were out again.

(TLD= Totally Long Daaree)

I doubt that there is any organised religion in the world that does not collect money from its parish members, however, there MUST be an honest accounting for what happens to this money.

After the Catholic Mass, a plate gets passed around and people put money into it. I imagine this money is supposed to be for the church.

Can any one enlighten me on what happens to the plate money and what it is supposed to be used for?

tahir,

u forgot the biggest hit, the vajebaat.

and not to forget the units for new masjid, car park, padhramni of shezaada, moharram tamasha, fund for ashura picnic every year (like the srilankan tourism last year) and now the recently started fund to help 'poor bohras' who wish to visit raudat tahera and do haj but have no money etc. etc etc.....ad nauseum.....

plus the targetting of each mumin bhai to do a darees ni majlis in his house and invite the amil, salaams for lailat-al-qadr, eid, every pehli tarikh and so on... the list is unending man.

Ok so the new list goes like this:

-Zakaat
-Vajebaat
-Sila Fitra
-Sabeel
-Salaam for various razas
-Salaam during festivals
-Home visit fees
-Cess for building and upkeep of monuments
-Hub for darees
-Sirat-al-Imam
-Najwa for Syedna
-Units in Ramzaan
-Shehzaada padhaares units
-Funds for poor bohras to visit raudat tahera and haj

Now suppose a bohra earns 5 lakhs INR per year, how much of his income will go into each head? lets start populating it with numbers.

Might as well add a Najwa for every shahrezaada and shehrezaadi, too. I forget, Is there a Raas Al Hudood, as in the Alavi Bohri tradition? If so, let's have a special najwa for him too.

Later they can start collecting monies for future zarihs for all shehrezaadas and shehrezaadis, too.

oh yes, forgot to add the recent new custom of collecting money for kardhe hasana, a min. amount is taken, whether you participate in it or not!

i suppose the only thing remaining is for them to do a weekly "HAPTA VASULI"... ;)
