It is reported that the leaders of the Dawoodi Bohra community on January 26 called on Modi at Surat and invited him to inaugurate Burhani Expo-2011, an industrial exhibition scheduled to be held in Ahmedabad on February 19 and 20, as a part of the centenary celebrations of Bohra spiritual leader, Syedna Muhammed Burhanuddin.

Bohra leaders say that Modi has agreed to inaugurate the Expo, where Bohra industrialists and traders from all over the country, numbering around 300 are expected to participate.

Commenting on these developments, human rights activist J S Bandukwala (a Dawoodi Bohra himself) said that the rich and prosperous Muslims of Gujarat were doing a great damage and disservice to their own community.

Oma, you're right. It's tiring to hear abdes justifying Sayedna-Modi nexus by citing the Ali AS and Imam Hasan's compromises.
The comparison is disingenuous and dishonest. There was pressure on Ali and Hasan to give baya to the khalifas - they did so in order not create factions in Islamic ummah.

For the Sayedna there is no such pressure. He has no obligation to pay fealty to Modi, to bribe him and honour him. If the Sayedna could not bring himself to condemn for tactical reasons Modi's murderous actions, he could have at least kept quiet. Where's the need go out of one's way and befriend him - unless one is keen to protect one's property and wealth in Gujarat. The plea that it was done to save ordinary bohras is only a pretext. Why are you not defending Modi? Besides who is saying that Modi is the reason that "muslims are hated and victimised all over the world". We are saying Modi stands against Muslims in India, and specifically in Gujrat.
